0 Votes

The last time he performed at the Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla was in 2001 as a member of the Charlie Haden Quartet West, which was more than two decades. American saxophonist Ernie Watts now opens the 23rd edition of this festival, which features two more concerts: Richard Bona Mandekan Cubano (August 9) and Giulia Valle Trio (August 16).

Ernie Watts (Virginia, 1945) is a renowned session musician who began his career in the mid-1960s as the first saxophonist of the band of legendary drummer Buddy Rich. He has collaborated with true legends such as Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Marvin Gaye, John Mayall, Frank Zappa, Pat Metheny and The Rolling Stones, with whom he participated in their 1981 tour.

With his quartet he has recorded more than twenty albums in which his taste for jazz with influences of groove, soul and blues can be appreciated.

The quartet is formed by: Ernie Watts (sax tenor), Christof Saenger (piano), Rudi Engel (double bass) and Heinrich Koebberling (drums).
