He is considered one of the most important interpreters of viola da gamba in the world, and one of the greatest renovators of the interpretation of ancient music, thanks to his risky, personal and communicative conception of the approach to historical repertoires. Fahmi Alqhai (Seville, 1976) opens the VII edition of the Caimari Festival of Ancient Music with the world premiere of his latest album, The Bach Album.

From a Syrian father and a Palestinian mother, Fahmi Alqhai was educated in Seville and Switzerland, where he studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano. In addition to his background as a soloist, he directs the baroque music group Accademia del Piacere and, since 2009, is artistic director of FeMÀS, the Festival of Ancient Music in Seville.

The Bach Album, his most personal work as a soloist, has received the Audience Award for the best record production in 2016 at the Musica GEMA Awards, the Melomana de Oro and has been chosen Exceptional Album by Scherzo magazine.
