The first concert of the season 2018-2019 of the Fundació Studium Aureum is dedicated to Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) with two of his works: Concerto for violin 'Melker' and Misa 'in Angustiis'. Directed by Carles Ponseti Verdaguer, the Cor and Orquestra Studium Aureum and soloists take part.
The violinist Ramon Andreu participates in the Violin Concerto 'Melker', one of four concerts written by Haydn for Alois Luigi Tomasini (1741-1808), a talented violinist hired at the age of 16 as Prince Nicholas Esterházy's valet. The manuscript was discovered in 1949 by H.C. Robbins Landon at Melk Abbey; In 1961 another copy of the concert was found at the Marcello Library in Venice.
The program is also composed of Mass 'in Angustiis' (in difficult times, alluding to the difficult political and military situation of the time). Written in the dramatic key of D minor, however it is only used in two of the movements: the Kyrie and the Benedictus, the other parts are in D Major. Performing as soloists:
Virginia Wagner (soprano), Mar Campo (contralto), Antonio Aragón (tenor) and Carlos López (double bass).
Half an hour before the concert, the composer Mercè Pons will offer an introductory talk about the author and the works.
