Every summer, the Cor de Calvià presents an opera assembly at the Peguera Auditorium. This year the title chosen is HMS Pinafore, a two-act comic opera with music by composer Arthur Sullivan and libretto by William Gilbert. The adaptation of the texts has been carried out by Miquel Company.
The play was premiered at the London Opera House on May 25, 1878. The plot takes place aboard the H.M.S. Pinaforte, a British warship. The captain's daughter, Josephine, is in love with Ralph Rackstraw, a sailor without graduation. However, her father intends her to marry Joseph Porter, first Lord of the British Admiral.
With musical direction by Llorenç Gelabert and stage direction by Romina Colotto, Elies Benito (Sir Joseph Porter), Toger Berenguer (Ralph Rackstraw), Miquel Company (Captain Corcoran), David Llecha (Dick Riutor), Marga Rodríguez (Josephine), Maria del Mar Tugores (Little Buttercup), Auba Huguet (Hebe), Joan Laínez (Bill Bobstay), Pau Salvà (bassoon), Maria del Mar Vicens (transverse flute) and Svitlana Bens (piano).
