The Obra Social Sa Nostra Caixa de Balears and BMN launches a new edition of the courses for adults of the 2018-2019 season, which are held at the  Centre de Cultura Sa Nostra in Palma.

Keys to understanding contemporary art (II)

Teacher: Pilar Rubí.

Duration: from October 15 to December 17, 2018.

Schedule: Monday from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

In this monographic course we will try to find keys to decipher the creations and we will approach them through the analysis of works and the commented visit to exhibitions. With this, we will know the change that the last tendencies have experienced since 1945 and what has been its evolution until today.

Gastronomic archeology: nourish the body from artistic sources and archaeological remains (I)

Teacher: Elena Conde.

Duration: from October 25, 2018 to January 24, 2019.

Hours: Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Under an archaeological and historical perspective, the course delves into the knowledge of historical foods, their applications and culinary uses; "Nutrition" of different religions, social strata or professions; the daily tables or of big banquets, the markets, the great prehistoric famines; the fever of the species driven by Marco Polo; the analysis of the utensils used from prehistory to the new contributions from America. As a basic pillar, the stage of extension of food due to the centralization of the Roman Empire, wine,oil, garum, cereals, etc.

The historical avant-gardes

Teacher: Pilar Rubí.

Duration: from January 21 to March 25, 2019.

Schedule: Monday from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Between the last lustrums of the nineteenth century and the end of the Second World War, artists throw into the world a new way of seeing and understanding it through their works, laying the foundations for the development of the artistic culture of the 20th century. Commonly called the -isms (impressionism, fauvism, cubism, surrealism, etc) the historical avant-gardes are fundamental movements to understand all the art that came later.

In search of secrets: the Etruscans, a mysterious civilization of ancient Italy

Teacher: Elena Conde.

Duration: from March 7 to May 23.

Hours: Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Etruria, ancient region of Italy, was imposed as a solid civilization in the entire Mediterranean from the S. IX a.C. until being absorbed by Rome in S. III a. C. Its attractive and refined material culture offers us important artistic manifestations in the funeral world and in everyday life.

Possibility of travelling to the Etruscan Italy, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio, adding Renaissance villas, the gardens of Bomarzo and the papal city of Viterbo. The monographic courses will be carried out in a classroom with the support of audiovisual material. They will have a total of 10 sessions. To be able to carry out the courses, a minimum number of 50 students is required.
