Algaida

Algaida celebrates Saint James (Sant Jaume), with a program full of activities. The dance of the cossiers around the streets of the village, while the public, besieged by the demon observes them, remains one of the most interesting parts of the festival. Six male characters, dressed in white with skirts of overlapping colors and a wide belt from which hand colored ribbons, dance around the lady, dressed in a white blouse and a flowery silk skirt that coordinates the choreographies of the group. These dances are related to ancient fertility festivals, although its origin is uncertain. The cossiers, dance the eve of Saint James, and also the day of the festivity, in the interior of the church in a mass honoring the saint and at the exit of temple.
