The parc de Sa Riera, in Palma, is the stage of the Oktoberfest (October Festival), a German cultural and gastronomic event that takes place in Palma from the end of September until the middle of October. Live music, traditional dances, typical Bavarian meal and all kinds of beers are the ingredients of a festival that reproduces the one that is celebrated every year in Munich, since 1810, the most crowded one in Germany. It has its origin in the celebration of the nuptials of Prince Luis I of Baviera with the Princess Teresa de Sajonia-Altenburgo.
The Oktoberfest is also celebrated in the complex Megapark s'Arenal, much more massive and focusing on German tourists of the Platja de Palma, and in Santa Ponça (Calviá). A lot of beer, food specially brought from Germany and traditional songs intoned by the audience, are the main attraction of this festival.
