With the celebration of Palm Sunday, the Holy Week initiates in Mallorca. It begins in the morning, with a religious service, which reads the passage of the gospel that recalls Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, and the traditional blessing of the olive branches and white palms, which hang on the balconies of the houses as a symbol of protection against evil spirits. In the afternoon, in many villages, they still celebrate the Twelve Sermons, a via crucis in the interior of the Church that was anciently performed outdoors.
