The Majorcan missionary Miquel Josep Serra i Ferrer, known as Fray Junípero Serra, was born in Petra in 1713. He founded several missions in Alta California which later resulted into cities like San Francisco, San Diego or Los Angeles. One can visit the house where he lived from age 6 to 16 years, the museum and the Center of juniperian Studies.
