The writer and poet Robert Graves (1895-1985) lived most of his life in Deià where he arrived in 1929 recommended by the influential Gertrude Stein. Apparently, the American writer and critic convinced Graves with a resounding "if you can stand paradise, go to Mallorca." He endured it to such extend, that the writer of I, Claudius is buried here in a beautiful cemetery overlooking the Sierra de Tramuntana. What was his residence for more than half a century is now a museum house that preserves much of the writer’s furniture and original decoration. The tour includes the gardens, where Robert Graves planted many fruit trees.
