Artà

This foundation is one of the most recent incorporated in Mallorca. It was created in 2008 by artist Aina Maria Lliteras in a typical urban mansion of the seventeenth century which is known as Can Cardaix, where she was born and in which today she maintains her home and workshop. The building is divided into four floors and in 1811 it underwent a major reform, although the left side still keeps the original construction.

A visit to Can Cardaix allows us to discover the customs and lifestyle of the former Majorcan nobility, besides the work of this renowned artist of Arta. The tour starts at the ground floor, which houses the permanent exhibition of Aina Maria Lliteras and a large hall which serves to distribute the different rooms of the house. There are Art Deco-style rooms, XVII century furniture and a kitchen where an exhibition of pieces of copper of culinary utility is shown. The old stables have become a patio and cafeteria.

By the imperial staircase, from where a painting by Lliteras of 32 square meters placed on the ceiling can be seen, one enters the first floor. Here is the dance hall with a mosaic floor and Valencia signed XVII century paintings by renowned artists and XVIII Spanish and Mallorca. There are also rooms of different styles and eras: the rose room, the Solomon, the Elizabethan, the Alfonsine or the green hall.

The main facade of the building features a pictorial ornamentation that draws in negative Doric columns and arches. The other facade, facing the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Arta, is a more austere character and is decorated with ceramic murals of the eighteenth century.
