This museum was created in 1986 from donations made by Joan Mesquida and his wife Anna Ferrando. During nearly two decades it was installed in the town hall of Porreres, until in 2002 it was moved to the old hospital building.
It has a collection of 264 artworks, including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, drawings and prints. This makes it one of the most complete collections of contemporary art that can be seen in Mallorca. Exhibited are works by Candido Ballester, Dionis Bennàssar, Jim Bird, Coll Bardolet, Salvador Dali, Macedowski, Pere Pujol, Tarrassó and Riera Ferrari, among many other national and foreign artists.
Every year since 1982 and during the festival of Sant Roc in this municipality, it is customary that the museum received works donated by artists, art galleries and individuals.
