This famous opera in four acts with music by Giuseppe Verdi and libretto in Italian by Antonio Ghislanzoni, returns to the Opera Season of the Teatre Principal de Palma. Aida was premiered to great acclaim at the Opera House of the Khedive in Cairo on December 24, 1871.
The libretto is based on the French version that Camille du Locle wrote on the subject proposed by the Egyptologist Auguste Marietteu. It tells the story of the Ethiopian princess Aida, captured and sent to Egypt as a slave.
This production of the Teatre Principal de Palma has musical direction by José Ferreira Lobo and stage direction of Francisco Lopez. Involving el Cor delTeatre Principal and the Balearic Symphony Orchestra 'Ciutat de Palma', along with a cast of nine opera singers: Tamara Wilson, Albert Montserrat, Javier Franco, Ildiko Komlosi (days 18, 20 and 22), María Luisa Corbacho (day 15), Ivo Stanchev, Pablo López, Marga Rodríguez and Roger Berenguer.
