This zarzuela in three acts in verse, released in 1874, was composed by maestro Francisco Asenjo Barbieri with libretto by Luis Mariano de Larra, son of journalist and writer Mariano José de Larra.
El barberillo de Lavapiés (The Little Barber of Lavapies) intends to parody, and not just with its title, the opera by Rossini Il Barbiere di Siviglia, replacing Sevilla with the neighborhood of Lavapies, a popular area of Madrid in the time of Carlos III.
This production of the Teatre Principal de Palma features stage direction by Pablo Lopez and musical direction by Andres Salado. With the participation of the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, and a voice cast which contains Manel Esteve, Lola Casariego, Natalia Salom, Gabriel Blanco, Jaume Salvá, Rodrigo Alvarez and Joan Carles Bestard.
