'The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte)'

The Magic Flute is one of W.A.'s best-known and most-represented titles Mozart. A fairy tale, with touches of humor, riddled with philosophical references. Jorinde Keesmaat is committed to a current staging and presents this Flute as a contemporary theater, without romantic luxuries. This production of the Maastricht (Netherlands) is now presented at the Teatre Principal de Palma.

Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, is kidnapped by Sarastro. Prince Tamino, captivated by her beauty, agrees to release her. But it will not be easy. To achieve this, it will have the help of the bird hunter Papageno, and a magic flute that modifies the mood of the listener.

Opera in two acts by W.A. Mozart, in German, with a libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder based on Lulu, oder die Zauberflöte, by A.J. Liebeskind, and in Sethos, the work of Jean Terrasson. Formally it is a singspiel, a type of popular German opera where the sung parts are interspersed with the spoken ones.

Die Zauberflöte it premiered at the Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna on September 30, 1791, two months before the death of Mozart, who personally directed it. In Spain, it premiered at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona on January 15, 1925.

With dramaturgy by Wout van Tongeren, stage direction by Jorinde Keesmaat and musical direction by Josep Planells, it is interpreted in its main roles by Carmen Romeu (Pamina), Aleksandra Jovanovich (Queen of the Night), Marta Bauçà (Lady 1) , Begoña Gómez (Lady 2), Frédérique Sizaret (Lady 3), Maia Planas (Papagena), Jorge Juan Morata (Monostatos).

The Cor del Teatre Principal, conducted by Pere Víctor Rado, and the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears, conducted by Pablo Mielgo, take part.
