'The Wizard of Oz'

2009 marked the 70th anniversary of the premiere of the film adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a classic of children's literature written by American Lyman Frank Baum and illustrated by WW Denslow. First published in 1900, follows the adventures of young Dorothy Gale in the wonderful land of Oz.

Commemorating this date, producer MundiArtistas embarked on mounting this musical directed by Alber Ponte and which has received the Award of Rojas 2012 for Best Family Show.

Dorothy lived in boring Kansas with her Aunt Emma and her friends Hunk, Leo and Oliver until, suddenly, a hurricane carried her to the magical world of Oz. To return home, the Fairy Glinda leads Dorothy through the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where the Wizard of Oz who is able to grant any wish, lives.

Along the way, she meets a brainless Scarecrow, a Tin Man without a heart and a cowardly lion who join her to ask the Wizard for what they believe to lack. With the help of the fairy Glinda and her new friends, Dorothy manages to defeat the Wicked Witch of the West and reaches the Wizard of Oz. Thanks to him, she understands that the real magic is within us and that in her heart she has the ability to meet her wishes and come back to Oz whenever she feel like it to live new adventures.

The Wizard of Oz contains some of the songs that are now part of the collective imagination as Over the Rainbow, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E. Y. "Yip" Harburg, authors of the soundtrack of the film. For this work they got the Oscar for best original score and best song in 1939.
