‘Montaña Roja’, by Olimpia Velasco

The Museum of Pollença organizes the Montaña Roja exhibition of the artist Olimpia Velasco (Madrid, 1970), curated by Andreu Aguiló and shown in the Church of Sant Domingo de Pollença.

The artist, established in Mallorca, returns to the mountains to express the need to reflect deeply on the impact that our actions have on nature and specifically on the situation of uncontrolled urbanism on the island of Majorca.

The proposal is conceived as an installation that reflects and asks for help in three narrative times: the present time, at the entrance to the church, a large-screen video projection of a mountain turned to orange tones, which serves as an access and introduction for the viewer to a future tense; a symbolic version of the mountain built with 4,000 bricks in the center of the church; finally the viewer reaches a timeless state, located on the altar, a dreamlike, luminous profile of the Sierra de Tramontana, the red line that appeals to the viewer: a call for help, a cry.

For the realization of the performance, on the day of the inauguration, will act the soprano Anne Leohold, whose voice is part of the sound of the installation.
