The last appearance of this acclaimed Russian pianist at the Chopin Festival was just ten years ago, in 2012. This year he returns to the cloister of the Cartoixa de Valldemossa in the new edition with a program entirely dedicated to the Polish composer after whom the festival is named.
Alexei Volodin (Saint Petersburg, 1977) is a sensitive and technically brilliant artist, sought after by orchestras of the highest level. In 2003 he won the first prize at the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich, which meant the international projection of his career.
Volodin has an extraordinarily diverse repertoire, from Beethoven and Brahms, through Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Scriabin, to Shchedrin and Medtner. The 2021/2022 European concert season includes invitations to perform again with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic (conducted by Daniel Raiskin) and the Russian National Philharmonic, as well as debuts with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and the Hamburg Staatsorchester, with regular contributors like Pietari Inkinen and Kent Nagano.
In addition to his performances with an orchestra, he offers recitals in the main European halls and collaborates as a chamber musician with different ensembles.
His last album for the Mariinsky label was the Piano Concerto no. 4 by Prokofiev, conducted by Gergiev. His album with works by Chopin won the Choc de Classica and was awarded five stars for Diapason.
The program that he offers in the Cartoixa cloister is made up of works by Frédéric Chopin:
- 1 -
Nocturne op. 15 no. 1 in F major
Fantaisie op. 49 in F minor
Nocturne op. 15 no. 2 in F sharp major
