Aurelia and Carl Canaan was an American couple who after a decade traveling the world saturated in Cala Ratjada, where they resided between 1955 and 1965 and were the owners of the Hotel Castillo. Their extensive photographic archive has resulted in the publication of Fotografies dels senyors d'ahir Cala Ratjada 1955-1965 which is also the title of this exhibition featuring a selection of the images. The photographs have been cataloged and digitally restored by Daniel Vega Borrego, Doctor of Fine Arts, and Sergio Vega Borrego, filmmaker and graduate in audiovisual communication.
At first, the Canaan photographed with fascination the craftsmanship of the building of their hotel, from the start of construction to completion and their loyal workers. Gradually they become photographed, often as a promotional image of the hotel and photographs taken by the visitors themselves.
