The Glissando Big Band born as cultural association in Mallorca in 2011 with the idea of being a big band. Consists of 18 musicians and their repertoire ranges from swing and traditional jazz to more modern sounds like latin-jazz, funk and jazz-fusion.
This concert pays tribute to the great composers Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Thad Jones, among others, considered the most influential in the history of jazz. They are accompanied by the New York saxophonist Bob Sands (1966), who resides in Madrid since 1992 and leads The Bod Sands Big Band, one of the most powerful groups in the jazz scene in Spain.
Sands has participated in international tours with the orchestras of Lionel Hampton and The Glenn Miller Orchestra and played with figures such as Dizzy Gillespie and Paquito D'Rivera. Nationally speaking, he has recorded and performed with artists such as Perico Sambeat, Jorge Pardo, Chano Dominguez, Joaquin Sabina, Miquel Rios, Martirio, Victor Manuel, Ana Bethlehem or Joan Manuel Serrat.
The Glissando Big Band is formed by Kiko Guerrero and Jordi Monserrat (high saxophone), Thomas Fontin and Cesc Montane (tenor sax), Miquel Àngel Rigo (baritone), Miquel Amengual, Guillem Nadal and Joan Amengual (trombones), Pedro Vallbona (bass trombone), Julian Abad, Pep Garau, Mateu Riera and Jaume Blázquez (trumpets), Jaume Riera (piano), Guillem Fullana (guitar), Joan Garcias (bass), Salvador Font (drums) and Cecilia Giménez (voice).
