The XXX Opera Season opens with this production of the Teatre Principal de Palma with stage direction of Francisco Lopez and musical direction by Attilio Tomasello. Featuring the Cor Teatre Principal and the Symphony Orchestra Illes Balears.
The program includes two operas premiered in the same period. Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni has music and libretto by Giovanni Tarzoni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci, based on a story by Giovanni Verga. It premiered on May 17, 1890 in Rome Constanzi Theatre. It is represented by Alexander Roy (Turiddu), Maria Luisa Corbacho (Santuzza), Alberto Mastromarino (Alfio), Vila Laura (Lola) and Marisa Roca (Mamma Lucia).
I Pagliacci, is an opera in two acts with music and libretto by Ruggero Leoncavallo premiered at the Teatro dal Verme in Milan on May 21, 1892. In it will perform Alexander Roy (Canio), Alberto Mastromarino (Tonio), Maia Planas (Nedda) Antoni Aragón (Beppe) and Rodrigo Alvarez (Silvio).
One day before the premiere, on Saturday February 6, is held an introductory lecture in the same theater by Marcel Gorgori.
