He was the leader of the pop band Mamá, created in the early 1980s with notable influences by the then prevailing New Wave. They released three albums (Chicas de colegio, El último bar y Mamá) and in 1983 they decided to separate to undertake separate projects. José María Granados has composed songs for groups like Los Secretos or Amistades Peligrosas.
Mamá reappeared in 2009 with Jose Maria Granados leading them (Manolo Mené, the other founder, had died in 2004) editing three new albums. The latter is Sin crédito (2013), which he now presents at La Movida also recalling his old hits.
