The legendary German singer comes to 54 Festival de Pollença with her show Last Tango in Berlin, accompanied by Vana Gierig (piano) and Víctor Hugo Villena (bandoneón). The journey begins in the German capital with songs by composer Kurt Weill and Berlin cabaret songs. She continues in the poetic universe with French songs, of which she has stood out for the interpretation of themes that once were popularized by Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel. She closes her performance with the world of Argentine tango with themes of Astor Piazzolla.
German singer, dancer and actress, Ute Lemper (1963) began very young performing in jazz bars. She stands out especially in the German repertoire of between wars. Along her career she has participated in several musicals. She obtained worldwide fame playing the role of Velma Kelly in Chicago, both in New York and London, where she won the Olivier Award for best musical actress.
She also has to her credit a long career as a soloist, and has recorded numerous albums in German and English and French. She has collaborated with American and European composers like Michael Nyman (with whom she recorded the album Songbook in 1991), Tom Waits, Scott Walker, Elvis Costello, Philip Glass or Nick Cave.
Lemper just recorded his new CD Berlin Days / Paris Nights with the Vogler String Quartet and Stefan Malzew to the piano.
