The virgin of Carmen is the patron Saint of sailors, whose festivity was promoted by the Majorcan admiral Antoni Barceló Pont de la Terra in the 18th century. In many coastal villages of Mallorca, this day is celebrated with the traditional marine procession made of numerous boats illuminated and adorned with flowers, which at sunset; to the step of Virgin Mary while the municipal band plays in the background. Generally, this festival has a program that lasts for several days.

This festival is very eye-catching in Cala Bona (Son Servera), Cala Figuera (Santanyí), Cala Rajada (Capdepera), Coll d’en Rabassa (Palma), Port d’Andratx (Andratx), Port de Pollença (Pollença), Sa Ràpita (Campos), Portocolom (Felanitx) and Porto Cristo (Manacor).
