It was created in 1927 from the initiative of a group of illustrated people interested in the historical, natural, archaeological and natural heritage in the region of Arta. Traditionally, the museum had three sections: Archaeology, Natural Sciences and Ethnology.
However, after its restructuring, it is only possible to access the archaeological section, with the permanent exhibition titled La Darrera comunitat de la prehistòria balear(The last community of Balearic prehistory), dedicated to postalayótico, the latest period of prehistory of the Balearic Islands, which runs from the sixth century BC and the year 123 BC, when the islands were conquered by the Romans.
