On the occasion of World Water Day, Palmyra Sculpture Centre projects this haunting documentary by director Isabel Coixet. It tells the dramatic process of desertification of the Aral Sea, a saltwater lake located in Central Asia, which the Catalan filmmaker filmed for the Foundation We Are Water.

The film addresses one of the biggest environmental disasters in history, and that turned the Aral Sea, which in 1960 was the fourth largest lake in the world, with an area of about 68,000 square kilometers and a volume of 1,100 square kilometers of water, virtually into a contaminated desert.

For this short film, released in 2011, the director of Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio (Map of the Sounds of Tokyo) had two luxury collaborations, such as Sir Ben Kingsley as narrator of the documentary, and Tim Robbins, who composed and performed an original song for the soundtrack.
