El Verdugo a film from 1963 written by Jose Luis Garcia Berlanga and Rafael Azcona, is one of the masterpieces of cinema history. Based on two real events: the execution of Menorcan Pedro Tudurí Vidal in Palma on February 21, 1951 at the hands of executioner Florentino Fuentes Estébanez; and of Pilar Prades in 1959, known as the "poisoner of Valencia 'who was the last executed woman in Franco's Spain.
