La hija oscura (The Lost Daughter, its original title) is the directorial debut of Maggie Gyllenhaal, who brings to the screens the adaptation of the homonymous novel by Elena Ferrante.
Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda finds herself consumed by a young mother and her daughter as she watches them on the beach. Intrigued by their attractive relationship, Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of her early motherhood.
