The XV Pianino Festival pays tribute to the great Polish harpsichordist and composer Wanda Landowska (1879-1959) with a very special evening composed of a conference, an exhibition and a harpsichord recital by the great Diego Ares. All this in the Cell of Frédéric Chopin and George Sand of the Cartuja de Valldemossa.
Inés R.Artola, professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, will give the conference entitled Wanda Landowska y la Isla Dorada (Wanda Landowska and the Golden Island). This talk is complemented by an exhibition dedicated to Wanda Landowska in Mallorca in 1911, a trip she made to the island for a concert she gave at the Teatro Principal in Palma. Recently unpublished photographs of her are shown and for the first time they can be seen in public.
Finally, the harpsichord recital by Diego Ares, who returns to the island after many years. Ares is considered by the specialized press as one of the main harpsichordists of his generation. He will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wanda Landowska, Henry Purcell and Domenico Scarlatti. He also works by Frédéric Chopin and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the Pleyel grand piano from 1851.
The entire activity will be dedicated to the memory of the luthier and musician Paco Forteza, who died in August 2023.
