For Ting Ting Cheng (Taipei, Taiwan, 1985) "it is not about traveling, it’s about trying to identify the place we recognize as home." This is what she claims in one of her projects, Reasons to Travel, fruit of her travels through Italy, Germany, France and the United States.
The project now presented by this young traveling artist was conceived during her stay in Mallorca showed for the first time in November 2011 at the art center Addaya (Alaró), which was her first solo exhibition in a Spanish gallery.
Jo vull aprende Mallorquí (I want to learn Mallorcan) is a series that combines Chinese inscriptions with objects and images. All of this accompanied by stories of her adventures in Mallorca with audio narrated in Catalan, thanks to the automatic translation of Google Translate.
The exhibition is held within the frame of the II Festival Miradas de Mujeres de Mallorca (II Festival Views of Women from Mallorca), organized by the association Mujeres en las Artes Visuales (MAV)( Women in the Visual Arts) with activities throughout the month of March. Nearly thirty spaces around the island have joined the initiative, which has more than fifty participants including artists, curators and lecturers.
The festival aims to get the exposure and spread the work carried out by women in the art world in Spain deserves. It is celebrated simultaneously in the rest of the autonomous communities.
