Coinciding with the new edition of PalmaPhoto, Es Baluard opens its new space Gabinete, which will be used for the submission of projects related to the collection of this Museum of Contemporary Art of Palma.
The artist chosen for the opening is the renowned Mallorcan photojournalist Pep Bonet (Colonia de Sant Jordi, 1974), which features eight photographs from the series One Goal. The works, made between 2002 and 2007, show the terrible aftermath of the war in Sierra Leone from amputee children and young people due to landmines.
With black and white and large format photographs, the series features sequences of a football field of amputees in Aberdeen, close to the beach in Freetown. To this place come, banished from their homes and families, people with aftermath of the Civil War which lived Sierra Leone from 1991-2002.
One of the more recent works of Pep Bonet, his video Into the Shadows, received last February the prize World Press Photo Multimedia 2013. This documentary film reflects the everyday life of hundreds of thousands of Africans who survive in the city of Johannesburg.
In addition to One Goal at Es Baluard, at CaixaForum Palma can be seen, until January 12, 2014, The exhibition Justicia alimentaria (Food Justice), with photographs by the Mallorcan photojournalist in rural communities in Bolivia and Tanzania.
