‘Reis del món‘

0 Votes

Directed by José Martret and dramaturgy by Josep Maria Miró, based on Sebastián Alzamora's novel of the same name, Reis del món exudes the same strength as its two protagonists: the oligarch Joan March and the humanist Joan Mascaró.

The two were born in the same town in Mallorca, Santa Margalida, 17 years apart. Financier and smuggler Joan March became one of the richest and most powerful men of his time. He was capable of bringing down governments, and putting conditions on Franco or Churchill.

Meanwhile, Joan Mascaró was the main translator and disseminator of Hindu mystical thought to Western culture, a reference (among others) to the Beatles, who dedicated the song The Inner Light to him.

In Reis del món, these two royal and antagonistic characters meet in an office at the beginning of the 50s. Money and power versus the investigation of beauty and goodness.

Reis del món is a production of the Teatre Principal de Palma with the collaboration of the Fundació Mallorca Literària.
