Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi (Italy, 1813-1901), La Traviata is based on the stage adaptation of the novel La Dame aux Camelias, signed by Alexandre Dumas (son). It is an unusual piece in the production of Verdi for its realistic character. It is an intimate drama in which the actors, when it premiered, first wore contemporary costumes and not historical, as was customary.
