In 2012, the hundredth anniversary of the discovery of Son Peretó and the start of excavations in this archaeological site, located six miles from the Museum of the History of Manacor. Within the commemoration of this centenary the exhibition Cent anys de Son Peretó: descobrint el passat cristià (Hundred years of Son Peretó: discovering the Christian past) is celebrated.
The exhibition aims to raise awareness of this archaeological site of late antiquity (it was inhabited between centuries IV and VIII after our era) and of the figure of its discovery, Mossèn Joan Aguiló (Palma, 1860-Manacor, 1924). It consists of 70 pieces including ceramics, jewelry, drawings that recreate scenes of baptism or graves, the reconstruction of the temple of the early Christian mosaics and photographs of excavations from the 80s to the present.
Son Peretó is the only existing basilica on the island of Mallorca that can be visited and consists of a baptistery, a cemetery and the Basilica. During the time the exhibition will be on display there will be two guided tours, on September 22 and November 10, both at 18:30.
