Second concert of the 2018-2019 season of the Fundació Studium Aureum. The event is titled A. Dvořák / L. Janáček string music, and programs two very significant works of both Czech composers. The concert is directed by Carles Ponseti and has the intervention of violinist Ramon Andreu as concertmaster.

Idyla for string orchestra is a work of maturity by Leoš Janáček (1854-1928), with a great variety of music that give it an especially attractive character. Emphasized is the seventh movement, with melodies and dances alternated with a folkloric aftertaste, and the fifth, which Philip Kaufman included in the soundtrack of his film The unbearable lightness of being (1987), adapted from the novel by Milan Kundera.

The second of the works in the program is Serenata op. 22 for strings, which Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) composed in 1975 when he was only 34 years old and is one of the most popular and performed. Its atmosphere is impregnated with optimism and reflects the critical moment that the composer lived. It premiered on December 10, 1876 in Prague with great success and four months later was presented in Brno, with Leoš Janáček as a director.

The Serenade is divided into five movements, all of them with great compositional virtuosity, in which the composer achieves a rich melodic and harmonic variety. The work, of considerable dimensions (lasts about half an hour), sheds a very inspired lyricism and a vigorous counterpoint that creates a sound 'network' of a very careful elaboration. These characteristics make their interpretation and execution go through an exhaustive reading and assimilation of the work.

Half an hour before the concert, the composer Mercè Pons will offer an introductory talk about the author and the works.
