This summer, the historic building of Torre de Canyamel will once again be the setting for important musical events. One of the essential events will be with Concha Buika, who will offer an intimate charity concert, organized by the Torre de Canyamel Group and to benefit the Asociación Amigos de Tilloli.
Known for her powerful voice and her versatility in moving between genres such as flamenco, jazz and soul, Buika returns to the Torre de Canyamel eight years later. And she does so having recently received the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts. A recognition that comes after a long career as a singer, composer, producer and lyricist, throughout which she has collaborated with artists such as Chavela Vargas, Chick Corea and Bebo Valdés.
Her first album, Mestizüo, was released in 2000 and since then she has released eleven more albums, including her latest, Deadbeat (2018). Niña de fuego (2008) brought her international recognition, earning her two Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Production.
She won the statuette two years later with El último trago, a tribute to Chavela Vargas and Bebo Valdés on his 90th birthday, recorded in Cuba with Chucho Valdés and his quartet. She won the Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album.
The Mallorcan singer with Guinean roots is once again offering her music for charitable purposes, as she did in 2016, with an intimate concert in a very special setting, presided over by the 13th century defence tower.
