She was born in Palma in 1972 – in a family of political exiles from Equatorial Guinea - and grew up in a neighborhood with a strong presence of the Gypsy community, finding in flamenco her mode of artistic expression. Concha Buika, who resides in Miami since 2011, returns to Mallorca to perform at the Torre de Canyamel, an ancient fortress of the thirteenth century.
Her first album, Mestizüo, was published in 2000 and she has since released nine albums, including the latest, Vivir sin miedo (living without fear, 2015). Niña de Fuego (Fire girl, 2008) marked her international recognition, winning two Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Production.
She got the statuette two years later with El ultimo tango (Last Tango), a tribute to Chavela Vargas and Bebo Valdes on his 90th birthday, recorded in Cuba with Chucho Valdes and his quartet. It received the Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album.
The concert of Concha Buika at the Torre de Canyamel is of a solidarity nature held to benefit the Associació Amics de Tilloli.
