La pintora sense rostre (The faceless painter) is the title of this film directed by Luis Ortas and Jaume Carrió, and produced by Cinètica Produccions. It narrates in a close and intimate way the life and work of Pilar Montaner (Palma 1876 - Valldemossa 1961) whose artistic side was enhanced by her husband, Juan Sureda, a Mallorcan noble who helped introducing her into the artistic and cultural scene of the moment.
Through her house passed such renowned intellectuals like Miguel de Unamuno, Miguel Costa i Llobera and Ruben Dario, whom she all painted. She was primarily dedicated to portraiture, landscapes and figure compositions. Joaquín Sorolla, Antoni Ribas, Ricardo Anckermann, Santiago Rusiñol, Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Antoni Gelabert or the Archduke Luis Salvador shared and admired the work of probably the first woman to be devoted to professional painting in Spain. She survived her husband, and continued to paint until her last days. She died at age 85.
