The renowned Israeli saxophonist and composer Eli Degibri participates with his quartet in the new edition of the Festival Jazz Palma presenting Henri and Rachel (2021), his ninth album.
Degibri began his unstoppable career in the mid-nineties and in 1999 he joined the sextet of Herbie Hancock. In 2002 he joined the legendary band of drummer Al Foster, where he stayed until 2011. He has collaborated with musicians such as Aaron Goldberg, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Street, Jeff Ballard, Kevin Hays or Gary Versace, with whom he has recorded some of his albums acclaimed by critics.
Known for his charisma, Eli Degibri has received important awards, such as the First Minister Award for Jazz Composition, for his role as a composer, or the Landau Award for Jazz Performance for his leadership skills. Henri and Rachel is the continuation of Cliff Hangin, who received a 5-star review of the prestigious magazine DownBeat, something very unusual in this publication.
Along with Eli Degibri (tenor saxophone, soprano), they make up the quartet Tom Oren (piano), Alon Near (double bass) and Evitar Slivnik (drums).
The Jazz Palma Festival is organized by the Palma City Council and is held from February 10 to 19, 2023 at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza. This fourth edition programs seven concerts with international artists and groups, as well as a series of complementary activities related to the world of jazz.
