Eugene Onegin is an opera in three acts by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Russia, 1840, St. Petersburg, 1893), with a libretto by Tchaikovsky himself and Konstantin Shilovski. It is based on a poem by Pushkin and is perhaps the most famous Russian opera of all time.
Eugene Onegin, which is offered live from the Royal Opera House of London, is a succession of waltzes, polkas and beautiful arias. Tchaikovsky's music shines in all its glory, in contrast perhaps with the drama of the protagonists with their unhappy love. It is, in short, a romantic opera par excellence. It premiered in St. Petersburg on March 29, 1879 and in Spain its premiere took place at the Gran Teatre del Liceu on January 4, 1955.
