Guada Álvarez Quintet

The Joni Mitchell Letters is the proposal that the quintet led by the Argentinian Guadalupe Álvarez Luchía presents at the 28th Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla. A concert at Parc Can Cirera Prim that will bring us closer to one of the fundamental repertoires of the universal songbook.

Joni Mitchell (Canada, 1943) began incorporating jazz elements into her work in 1974, with the release of her seventh album Court & Spark. Since then he has collaborated with icons of the genre such as Charles Mingus (to whom she would dedicate one of her albums in 1979), Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius or Wayne Shorter.

The Joni Mitchell Letters is an idea that was created by Mallorcan musician and producer Toni Brunet, together with the Vitoria-Gasteiz Conservatory, with the aim of adding energy to the fight against breast cancer. To be able to honor all the women fighters from the work of one of the greatest exponents of it. The result materialized in the recording of a live album, which we can now listen to in this edition of Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla.

Guadalupe Álvarez Luchía (vocals), Toni Brunet (guitar), José Vera (bass), Josué Santos (piano and saxophones) and Edu Olmedo (drums).

The Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla festival, organized by the Culture Department of the Sa Pobla City Council, is one of the most anticipated events for jazz lovers on the island. The 28th edition is held from July 26 to August 23, 2022 and schedules an opening concert in Plaza Major and four in Parc de Can Cirera Prim.

In addition to the concerts, the festival hosts the 17th Traveling School Play Jazz seminar, from August 12 to 14 at the Sa Congregació Cultural Center, the Literature and Jazz cycle and the photography exhibition Et regalo la meva mirada by Josep Lluís Luna, which will be shown outdoors at Parc de Can Cirera Prim from August 2nd to 23rd.
