Museums are the sanctuaries of art, history and culture. Throughout history, its evolution has been exciting: from its ancient origins as a temple of muses to the museums as an institution seated in vanguard buildings that became an emblem of cities.
The popularization project Aprendiendo en el Museo (learning in the museum) programs the course History of the Museums, which will extensively address the role of museums throughout the centuries. It is held in a room of the Military History Museum Castillo de San Carlos from October 15 to December 17 and will be taught by Elena Conde León, professor and tutor of CA Les Illes Balears-UNED, and Lourdes Montero Arroniz, graduated in Art History at UNED.
Each talk will consist of a theoretical part followed by an interactive practice, in which a piece of the collections of San Carlos will be proposed to complete the information on the subject treated. After completing the course participants will be awarded a diploma.
The program of the course covers from history and the main museums of the world with their collections to the work of conservation and restoration in museums.

1) The museum before history and museum in the classical world. Dagger approach to atrophied antennae of the Museum of San Carlos.
2) The museum in the Renaissance and Baroque. Approach to the rapier.
3) The museum in the nineteenth century. Approach to the Showcase "War of the Philippines."
4) The museum in the twentieth century. Approach to the Room "defense towers".
5) Typological evolution of museums. Approach to Room 5.
6) The world's leading museums and collections: Metropolitan Museum, Musée du Louvre, the British Museum, the Museo del Prado. Weyler collection.
7) Looking for beauty: the formation of collections. The collection Llorente.
8) The conservation and restoration in the museum. Prevent, preserve and restore. Approach to historical walls and interiors of the Castle.
9) The museums of the island of Mallorca: Miró Foundation, Museum of Manacor, Cathedral Museum of Mallorca, Es Baluard, Others (Inca, Montuïri ...).
10) Presentation and visit to the Fortress and Museum of San Carlos.
