The X International Festival of Classical Music Pianino 2017 begins with this concert by tenor José Manuel Sánchez and pianist Alejandro Calafat. The festival, which runs two concerts on June 24 and July 8, is held in the cell of Frédéric Chopin and George Sand de la Cartuja de Valldemossa.
After performing first roles in opera houses in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic and Spain, Majorcan tenor José Manuel Sánchez has debuted this season with the National Orchestra of Spain under the baton of National Music Award winner Juanjo Mena. Among his next commitments is highlighted the premiere of the rol of Nemorino in the opera Elisir d'Amore in the National Theater of Brno, in October of 2017.
Alejandro Calafat (1982) finished his studies of piano to professional and superior degree and of chamber music with the highest scores, having as teachers Andreu Bennàssar, Miquel Estelrich, Manuel Carra and Suzanne Bradbury. He has attended several courses in technique and piano interpretation, chamber music, choral conducting and musical analysis.
He has also specialized in German lied, French melody and Spanish song in Professor Dalton Baldwin's courses. He has collaborated with the Fundació Teatre Principal de Palma, la Coral Universitària and the Symphonic Orchestra Illes Balears, an activity that he combines with his work as a teacher at the Conservatori Professional de les Illes Balears.
