As usual in previous editions, the Deià International Music Festival dedicates several concerts to young performers from the Balearic Islands. The brass quintet Riu Dolç Quintet, created in 2014 within the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears, takes part in this event that is now being held in Son Marroig.

Riu Dolç Quintet is made up of José Fernando Garcia Iborra (trumpet), Carlos Navarro Zaragoza (trumpet), Taylor Townsend (horn), Diego Riudavets Riquelme (trombone) and Felipe Arroyo Muelas (tuba).

The program consists of:

La Forza del Destino - Overture, by Giuseppe Verdi

Quintet, by Michael Kamen

Quintet n. 3 by Victor Ewald
Allegro moderato
Moderate
Andante
Vivo

White Rose Elegy by Caleb Hudson

La Bohème - Che gelida manina, by Giacomo Puccini

Recuerdos de la Alhambra, by Francisco Tárrega

María de Buenos Aires, by Astor Piazzolla

The Deià International Music Festival was created in 1978 by the late Patrick Meadows, American musician and poet, and his partner Stephanie Shepard. Since 2000, the artistic director of the festival is the pianist Alfredo Oyágüez Montero.

This edition is held from June 3 to September 30. Most of the concerts take place in the Son Marroig Music Hall, a spectacular enclave on the Mallorcan coast in the municipality of Deià. The possessió, whose origins date back to the 16th century, was one of the properties acquired on the island by Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria in the Serra de Tramuntana, and the museum that is kept inside is dedicated to him.

During the intermission of the concert you can enjoy the fabulous views of the sea and an Ionic style temple made with white Carrara marble, accompanied by a glass of cava.
