The rituals of death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt have always fascinated Western scholars and travelers. This exhibition, curated by Christian Greco, is produced by the Obra Social La Caixa and designed by the Musée de la Civilisation in Quebec (Canada) in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden of Leiden (Netherlands), famous for its Egyptology collections.
The idea of the Egyptians to die to be born again demanded to preserve the deceased's body and this had as result the perfection over the centuries of the art of mummification. In Egyptian mummies. The secret of eternal life this issue is explained by objects from different periods and burial chambers.
It also includes images of CT scans and radiology films that the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden made of the mummies in the exhibition, which allows to learn about diseases, food habits and living conditions of ancient Egypt. The mummies are thus becoming essential witnesses of the past and reveal all its secrets.
