The Italian orchestra director Giuliana Retali conducts Il Barbiere di Siviglia, one of Gioachino Rossini's most famous operas that she now presents at the Auditòrium de Palma with her Opera 4.0 project.

After the success of Le Nozze di Figaro de Mozart, also premiered at the Auditorium in 2017, Il Barbiere di Siviglia is the second production created with this new concept of concerts, which aims to enhance classical music in the public and is based on three axes:  rhetorical gesture, respect for the recitation and clarity of the text and scenic elegance.

Il Barbiere di Siviglia is a two-act bufa opera with music by Rossini and an Italian libretto by Cesare Sterbini. It is based on the homonymous comedy by Pierre-Augustin de Beaumarchais and was premiered at the Teatro Argentina in Rome in 1816.

With musical direction by Giuliana Retali and stage direction by Deda Cristina Colonna, baritone Alessandro Luongo (Figaro, the barber), mezzo-soprano Svetuna Sioyanova (Rosina, the young orphan), tenor Francisco Brito (Conte d'Almaviva) are part of the cast ), baritone Fabio Capitanucci (Don Bartolo, tutor of Rosina), American bassist Andrew Harris (Don Basilio, music teacher), Mallorcan soprano Maia Planas (Berta, servant of Son Bartolo) and Mallorcan baritone Tomeu Bibiloni (Fiorello , servant of Conte d'Almaviva).

Also involved are the Palma Opera Cor, directed by Llorenç Gelabert, and the Mallorcan Camerata - created in 2014 by Giuliana Retali-, with Ramon Andreu as concertmaster.

The assembly is enriched and acquires a special vitality through the projections by  film director and documentary filmmaker Juan Andrés Mateos, specialized in audiovisuals made in cultural spaces.

After its performance at the Auditòrium de Palma, Il Barbiere di Siviglia will perform on September 8 at the Admiralspalast theater in Berlin.
