This composition for soprano, baritone, chorus and orchestra by Johannes Brahms is considered the masterpiece of choral symphonic repertoire. Although he used biblical texts, Brahms, who was agnostic, focused more on the human aspects of death than the strictly religious ones.

Its first premiere, of only a part, occurred on Good Friday 1868 in the Cathedral of Bremen, being released in full in 1869 at the Leipziger Gewandhaus.

This  German Requiem  can be heard Monday in the Cathedral of Mallorca in a charity concert to benefit Projecte Home Balears, an organization dedicated to the prevention and help for drug addicts. It will be carried out by the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, the Coral Universitat de les Illes Balears, the soprano Maia Planas and baritone José A. López.
