The New Yorker Suzette Moncrief is an exceptional vocalist of soul, jazz, gospel, funk, blues and rythm'n'blues, with a versatile voice that can sound warm and sensitive as strong and sharp. Her influences are singers she heard as a child: Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone and Janis Joplin, a music that she has assimilated throughout her career but adding her trademark.
Suzette Moncrief lives in Malaga since 1974. Here she met the great blues guitarist José Fernández 'Lito', starting his career with the Lito Blues Band. This formation usually participates, since more than twenty years, in the best festivals of the Spanish geography and reaps success by its high quality.
Now we can enjoy their music at the 22nd edition of the Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla with the following line-up: Suzette Moncrief (voice), Lito Fernandez (guitar), Jorge Blanco (bass) and Nicolas A. Huguenin (drums).
The Festival Mallorca Jazz Sa Pobla is organized by the City Council of Sa Pobla and programs five free outdoor concerts, held in the Plaça Major from August2 to 6. It also includes the 11th International Jazz Seminar with the Traveling School, a masterclass of saxophonist Perico Sambeat and an exhibition of photographs of Dani Alvarez in the Sala es Cavallets. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year in Mallorca for jazz lovers.
