The XL Deià International Music Festival reaches its final stage with this recital by the renowned Spanish pianist Josep Maria Colom (Barcelona, 1947). He has participated in important international competitions as an interpreter and also as a jury member, as in the Frédèrcic Chopin International Piano Competition in Poland.
Josep Maria Colom has been awarded in numerous competitions, in addition to receiving the Prize of the Ministry of Culture of Spain for the recordings of the complete sonatas of the eighteenth-century composer Manuel Blasco de Nebra.
In this concert he performs 24 Etudes of Frédéric Chopin, a series of studies for piano only published in the 1830s. In music, an Etude is a piece based on a single musical motif and aimed at mastering a specific technical skill.
The Deià International Music Festival has been held since 1978 in the music room of Son Marroig, one of the former properties of Archduke Luis Salvador in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. It was created by the now defunct Patrick Meadows, jazz musician and poet, and his partner Stephanie Shepard. Since a few years, the artistic direction falls on the pianist Alfredo Oyagüez Montero.
It is dedicated to chamber music, although it also includes proposals for styles such as jazz or flamenco.
