Last concert of the 52nd edition of the Festival de Pollença and first in the history of the festival to be held outside the town that gives it its name, particularly in Alcúdia.
Apart from this exception, the concert offers as a world premiere, the symphonies so far unpublished, which Michael Nyman will release in October at the Albert Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra. In the Festival of Pollença they will be executed by The World Orchestra, the resident orchestra of the festival for the second year under the direction of Josep Vicent, new director of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra.
It will also be the second year that British composer Michael Nyman (Stratford, London, 1944) one of the most acclaimed for his innovation and artistic versatility performs at the Pollença Festival, where the last edition already premiered two works. Apart from being a composer, pianist and conductor, he is also a writer, musicologist, photographer and filmmaker, so that many regard him as a Renaissance man.
As a composer, he is famous for his soundtracks for several films of Peter Greenaway, but the greatest success was achieved with The Piano, directed by Jane Campion in 1993.
